Ready, tuition, car, emotions.

I'm ready now.

I've had the time to dwell more positively for several hours, and I'm really, really happy for what I do have. Alissa gave me a really awesome sketchbook I can't wait to use when I'm over there -- it's really very me -- in which I put Andrew's (PoetryGoat) goodbye card. Visited Kelvin at IHOP today, and hoping Justin is alive. Savoring the last bit of Asahi. ;D

But, I currently have my finances in order for China. Tomorrow I'll pay my leftover tuition, as well as my father for the car insurance. I told my father that he should just go on and sell the car today, but I don't know what he really plans on doing. I can't (don't feel it's a priority to) pay my car insurance while staying fed, in one piece, in another country where I won't have a car, is my concern right now. He said the car is already mine, asked when I want to get it transferred over, and if I want to buy another car I can go ahead. I don't know.

We'll see, though... The closer something is, the easier it is to make a decision. Even if it's wrong.

I was also wondering if I should let my more emotional (angry) entries remain up on this blog; I decided that it's part of the travel process (especially since I'm yet to be in China). My mindset in going is definitely shaped by my pre-departure experiences while at home. Also, I have a personal blog I'll keep to when I'm upset/thinking really hard when I'm over there - it's on Blogger too, so just ask if you want to know (and I want you to know) how I'm faring emotionally.

  1. Hey Gabe! you'll most likely wont like to drive in Chengdu, as an american, your first culture shock will probably be traffic! so don't worry about not having a car ;) you won't miss it!
Hope are getting all ready. See ya, Nico!

  2. Whoa now! I don't plan on driving when I'm over there - I'm eager to walk, and driving when I don't have to definitely isn't my priority. :D I just mean when I come back. But people from other states always seem to be aghast when driving in DC/MD/VA. We apparently have some really bad traffic, but I would say it's far more ridiculous in places like Los Angeles. :\

However, someone else in my program posted a video of a taxi driver driving *against* traffic on their blog. Frightening.
